Liberians Are Betrayed Again

Thomas Kai Toteh (March 29 2006)

"...The day Charles Taylor ceremonially boarded the Nigerian presidential aircraft under the wing of Olusegun Obasanjo; the smartest ones already knew history would repeat itself. Who says Obasanjo and Sirleaf are not aware of Charles Taylor’s frame of mind?  Charles Taylor, up to the point the news about his disappearance broke out, was like one governor in Nigeria...."

It is not a surprise. Farsighted people saw it when it was coming. I just finished writing my second book, “America’s Runaway Prisoner” in which I query the United States government of the 80’s and Liberian political exiles for being the masterminds of Charles Taylor’s mysterious disappearance from the United States of America. Yes, it’s no doubt anyone can break jail anywhere at any time. But the question is how dare a fugitive can escape a country like United States ?

The farsighted people saw the game Olusegun and Ellen were playing. When international community including the war crimes tribunal in Sierra Leone demanded the new government for the immediate arrest of Charles Taylor, Liberian president, Madame Ellen Sirleaf continued to say her administration has a lot to do than prioritize Charles Taylor issue.

The day Charles Taylor ceremonially boarded the Nigerian presidential aircraft under the wing of Olusegun Obasanjo; the smartest ones already knew history would repeat itself. Who says Obasanjo and Sirleaf are not aware of Charles Taylor’s frame of mind?  Charles Taylor, up to the point the news about his disappearance broke out, was like one governor in Nigeria. Olusegun Obasanjo failed to place Taylor under house arrest at the critical time. But it is not a surprise, because from the onset he was reluctant to turn Taylor over either to the Liberian Government or to the UN war crime tribunal.

The situation, as I see it is not only frustrating, but dangerous for Liberia. Unless the Nigerian government vigorously seeks to apprehend Charles Taylor, it is a betrayer in West Africa. Besides being a betrayer in West Africa, the Nigerian government betrays its own citizens. It compromises the blood of the thousands of Nigerian soldiers that were killed by Taylor’s forces during their peace mission. In addition, if Taylor is not arrested, West Africa and the entire continent once again face ridicule by the Western world.

Finally, it is a hard thing to say, but we already have hundreds of Taylors inside Monrovia and inside Liberia. Since the general elections, I have not had any good dream about Liberia. No doubt, all Liberians should know by now that Taylor is not the only potential saboteur that we had to contend with. All peace loving Liberians need right now is hold together, fast and pray for the powerful wicked and the rich wicked to see nothing but darkness every step they take and every plan they make.

May the Almighty God guide Liberia from deceit, murderers, and rouges.
