Dr.Seton and youth Officials Cautions Youth to Take Charge of Future
The
Executive Director of the Social Services Commission of the Union of
Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Dr. Mariah Y. Seton, says
while she recognizes and respects the fact that every Liberian holds a
particular view of the rise and fall of the late President Samuel Doe,
she equally knows that "the history of our country is incomplete
without mentioning Doe's contributions to the country."

Madam President, you choose to praise one of your good friends at
Finance Ministry for her many achievements, yet you criticize the
leaders at Foreign Affairs calling them “weak”.
Did you not select some of these so called weak leaders? And, those
leaders that were inherited by your government…..haven’t you worked
with them long enough to determine their strengths and find positions
that they are better suited for?

I know this man
Who was dear to my heart.
He played a different role in all our lives
He was my father, a brother, a uncle, a grandfather
This man taught me everything I needed to know
But I never really listened
Until he had to go

To: The House of Senate
Subject: Re-Empowerment of the Auditor General to Audit the Senate
Date: May 10, 2008
Dear Sirs:
I write you this letter to register my profound dismay over the rather
reprehensible injury that you are inflicting upon the Liberian people
by your recent charade which, for all practical purposes, bans the
Auditor General of Liberia, Mr. John Morlu, from conducting a financial
audit of the Senate.

Giving the vast underdevelopment in Africa and incessant civil
conflict, one wonders deeply on the extreme mistake of this vast
continent. The continent is little understood. It is as diverse and
complex as it is huge. Africa is four times larger than the United
States and has twice as many people. 2ooo tribes or ethnic group
inhabits it. And yet it is extremely poor and nonprogressive. What a
continent.

...If Mrs. Sirleaf is in any way responsible for the atrocities
perpetrated against tens of thousands of defenseless civilians, she is
in no position to implement the changes this country desperately needs;
neither can she be an effective post-war leader. We hope the President,
for the good of this nation, will make the right decision. The People
of Liberia have suffered disproportionately and are tired of lies and
manipulation. And we are not prepared to settle for letting by-gones be
by-gones, relegating our posterity to unending cruelty and injustice....

Like a fresh scald, my heart bled with immense sorrow,
While my eyes formed fountains of tears that flowed endlessly,
When I heard that you had left the earthplane and entered
The realm of ideal peace and perfection and intelligence.

Mental Health Month occurs each year in May and is designed to increase awareness about mental illness.

Why do we still use the words Country and Congo and disparagingly place Liberians in one group or the other?
For the past several months, I have contributed articles/letters to
numerous online news media. My articles have been tailored to cover
issues of interest to Liberians. In each article, I have advanced ideas
that I consider relevant to the development and safety of our destroyed
country. It has also been my intention to evoke additional ideas on
whatever the topic, hoping to enrich the debate. I have deliberately
tried not to be divisive nor insulting to anyone.

Earlier this year, a controversy ensued between some members of the
Executive Branch and Mr. John Morlu, Auditor General of Liberia,
involving property damage allegedly caused by Mr. Morlu at the Roberts
International Airport. In view of this yet unresolved imbroglio,
Senators have opined through their recent legislative action that this
controversy has severely relegated Mr. Morlu thereby rendering him
bereft of the probity necessary to carry out any objective financial
audit of the Executive Branch.

I have just returned home from another visit to our country, Liberia.
As usual, relatives and friends have been asking me how things are
going on back there. I have told them that the answer to that question
may depend on who you talk to. Just like any other place in the world,
things are going so well for some people and not so well for others. If
I must give any answer to this question, it is the feeling of optimism
that Liberia is going to bounce back but it is going to be a long tough
journey before we get there.
